WEEKLY STRUCTURE
The small group plans are laid out in six steps:
1. Prepare (before the meeting)
Review the main idea and curriculum guide
Read the Bible text
Read the book portion for the week
Assemble needed supplies
2. Gather (at the beginning of the meeting)
Each session will begin with a short introduction of each participant, prompted by an
idea or illustration from the chapter.
The group will prepare to discuss the chapter by exploring the primary theme for the
week through an activity or discussion.
This opening time will conclude with prayer in preparation to study God’s Word.
3. Study God’s Word
The text that appears at the conclusion of each chapter (with the exception of the
prologue) will be used as a central text to be reviewed together.
A brief biblical background is provided for each text to help respond to the questions and
discussion prompts provided.
4. Consider and Discuss
The small group guide provides activities and discussion questions to engage with
elements from the chapter for the week.
Feel free to add additional activities or questions connected to the chapter that would be
particularly helpful for the group.
5. Make a Plan to Act
Discussion and activities will be focused on identifying action steps for members to take in
their own lives, as well as suggestions for engaging their children in discipleship activities.
Encourage members to act on that which they identify during this closing time each session.
6. Close in Prayer
Prayer prompts have been provided to help guide this concluding prayer time.
For groups consisting of children’s ministry leaders and volunteers, you may want to
refer to Appendix A in the book for questions or activity ideas that might be more specific to
your study.
