WELCOME
Welcome everyone to the fourth week of the study.
Ask each person to name a food they wouldn’t eat as a child but learned to eat as they
matured.
OPENING ACTIVITY
Say, “Our topic for this session is learning God’s Word. This chapter looked at a variety of
ways to help children engage in learning Scripture, but one of the key principles was
‘incremental or age-appropriate learning.’ So let’s begin by investigating this idea of
incremental learning from your own lives.”
Divide the group into smaller groups of three or four people.
Ask each member of the group to think of a skill they have or a task they know how to
complete that not everyone else might know how to do (e.g. preparing a particular
recipe, repairing a household appliance, playing an instrument, using a particular
computer software).
Ask them to think of all the steps it took to learn how to master the skill or complete the
task. Have them share with their smaller group the list of steps they had to learn or
master.
