WEEK 5
Vocabulary of Faith
Say, “As a caution, the author reminded us of two things in the closing pages of this
chapter. First, when a child asks a question about a difficult topic, we need to be careful in
our responses. Second, do not be afraid that a child will ask something you don’t know how
to answer.” (Raising Disciples, 87)
As a group create a list of four or five questions that a child might ask that would be difficult
to answer (or search the infographic for questions that group members would find
challenging).
For each question, ask for potential responses (limit a response to a sentence or two). If the
group is struggling to respond to one of the questions, make a plan to research the question
or ask a ministry leader for guidance in responding thoughtfully according to scripture.
Say, “A final suggestion from this chapter is to take teachable moments captive. Though
there will be times that we need to plan to have conversations with our kids, some of the
most fruitful times will be in the moment situations. Children are not looking for you to have
all the answers. Instead, they will appreciate an opportunity to have an open and honest
conversations with a caring adult. This week, may you be encouraged to slow down, listen
well to your children, and pay attention to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.”
Closing Prayer
Thank God for listening to our questions and strengthening our belief through
experiencing His power and presence.
Ask God for wisdom as members have conversations with children to encourage their
faith development.
Pray that each one can slow down and pay attention to the opportunities for
conversation with the children in their lives.
Thank God for His work of transformation in your life and the lives of children through
the process of discipleship.
