WEEK 7
Identity in Christ
On the notecard, write a prayer that you can pray on behalf of your child for the next
week. Place this where you will be reminded to pray each day.
Say, “When Jesus was preparing the twelve disciples to continue His mission, he gave them
opportunities to practice their faith through experiential learning (see Raising Disciples,
125). One way we can help children find their identity in Christ is to give them opportunities
to use their gifts and talents in service to God and to others.”
Discuss and Plan
Using the whiteboard, create a list of ways that children can use their gifts and talents.
At home
In their school and neighborhood
In the church
In the community
In reviewing this list or considering other options, identify a service project in your church,
neighborhood, or community that your small group, along with the children of the members,
could help accomplish. You may want to ask a ministry leader in advance if they have any
ideas or suggestions.
Say, “May God help you to continue to see the gifts and talents of your children and how
they can be used to serve God and the kingdom. May you encourage them in big and small
ways to use their gifts to love God and love others.”
Closing Prayer
Thank God for His boundless love for you.
Thank God that you are His child, created in His image and placed on a path of
discipleship toward looking more like Christ each day through His work in your life.
Thank God that He has created you for a purpose: to love Him and love others.
