WEEK 8
Faith of Their Own
Say, “The author provides a suggested framework for understand the period of time where a
child moves away from the faith inherited from their parents and into a faith of their own. To
help us understand that framework, let’s discuss our own experiences in liminality.”
Set a whiteboard (or large piece of paper) in the front of the group.
Create a list of events in life that would be described as “rites of passage” (e.g., getting
married, graduating high school, driving a car).
Choose one (or a few) of those common life events and identify the following (use the
information on pages 137-138 of Raising Disciples):
Old status
Rite of separation
Liminality
Rite of incorporation
New status

growth, and challenges that take place during that period of time.
Say, “Liminality is described as a time of transition. We have all experienced periods of

opportunity to learn something new.”
TIME OF PRAYER
Thank God that He continues to guide us through each stage of our discipleship
journey.
Pray for the participants in the book study.
Pray for the children represented by the participants in the room.
Ask for wisdom as you enter into the study of God’s Word.
