WEEK 8
Faith of Their Own
Consider and Discuss
DISCUSS CHAPTER 7
Say, “The author describes the stories of Samuel and Timothy (see Raising Disciples, 132134) as examples from Scripture of those who learned about God in childhood and served
him their entire lives. Each example provides a glimpse into the discipleship process,
specifically the time when a person comes to belief in God and commitment to Him.”
Say, “Whether you came to faith in God in childhood or at a later date, or are still in the
process of coming to a place of belief and commitment, you each have an experience to
share with one another and with the children in your life.”
ACTIVITY
Hand out a piece of paper and a pen or pencil to each participant.
Provide for them the following pattern—B, C, A—to use in crafting their discipleship
story
B = Before Christ: Briefly describe your life before Christ. For those raised in a
Christian home, describe your life before making a commitment to Christ. Focus on
how you first heard about Jesus and grew in knowledge.
C = Commitment to Christ: Describe the events that led to making a commitment
to Christ and what occurred when that commitment was shared with others.
A = After Christ: Describe how you continue to commit your life to following Jesus,
as well as your experience of the blessings and challenges of the Christian life.
Once participants have completed their discipleship story, have them gather in groups of
three or four people and share their story.
Say, “Regardless of where you are in your own discipleship journey, God is at work in your
story. In the same way, God is at work in the discipleship journey of your children. We get to
partner with Him in this work by encouraging them to see our faith in action as they grow
into a faith of their own.”
