“God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts,” says the apostle
Paul to his protégé in 2 Timothy 1. There is, arguably, nothing shy about
writing a book. You’re putting thousands upon thousands of words in
a row, then expecting not just your loved ones but far-flung strangers
to lay down dollars and set aside time to read what you’ve cobbled
together. Books are audacious. Publishing is an act of audacity.
That’s not to say that shy people don’t publish books. To write is a
distinctly solitary exercise, and to communicate via book is to accept
a considerable distance between yourself and your audience.
Many of the world’s great authors are shy.
There is a particular type of shyness, however, that gets in the way of
God’s audacious call on your life. It’s God’s gifts we’re talking about
here, gifts that are given not so much to us but through us. Shyness
is not an appropriate response to such generosity.
Rather, we are called to be “bold and loving and sensible.” Bold,
because God emboldens us. Loving, because God so loves us. Sensible,
because we are following a God who is putting the world right.
We’re excited to share this latest crop of offerings from NavPress,
along with some great representations of our audacious enterprise
over the past half century. We are confident you’ll find resources
in this catalog to embolden your faith, grow your godly love, and make
sense of your world.
